Since Goldtree started to establish its commercial oil palm business at Daru, we have identified certain needs in the immediate community. Sierra Leone, as one of the poorest countries in the world, is dependent on programmes such as ours to fund and facilitate social and community development as a means to encourage sustainable development. Whilst new economic development in the area can improve local living standards, uncontrolled development can destabilise whole communities.
Goldtree’s social responsibility and community development activities include providing funds to a community programme that provides small grants for selected projects according to the nature of the needs and the potential benefit to the community. Particular attention is paid to communities in and around the location of Goldtree’s operations in Kailahun District.
